a wedge design with a solid hinge point handles lifting a loaded roof much better than a vertical pop up with a roof that’s only supported by gas struts.
the wedge shape naturally sheds rain and snow. no need to shovel the roof in snowy environments.
Quick setup and breakdown time. the mousetrap camper only requires two latches to keep the roof closed, both of which can be operated while standing on the trucks bumper. two interior bungee cords pull the canvas inboard, eliminating the need to tuck the canvas before closing the roof. opening or closing the camper takes less than 30 seconds.
-
the unique folding back wall design does a few things.
it helps support the roof load. when locked into place, the roof is unable to sway side to side. this makes for a very solid platform for all your gear.
a solid back wall means we can install a nice operable glass window for excellent views and maximum airflow.
less canvas means less flapping in the wind.
it just feels nice. making the camper feel more stable and less like a tent.

YES! THE MOST COMMON DOWNSIDE OF A WEDGE CAMPER IS FOOT ROOM. THE NATURAL SHAPE OF THE WEDGE DOESN’T REALLY ALLOW YOU TO SLEEP ON YOUR BACK WITH YOUR FEET POINTED UP. THIS ISSUE IS USUALLY SOLVED BY A BED PLATFORM THAT IS MUCH LONGER THAN IT NEEDS TO BE. THIS SOLUTION GETS YOUR FEET AWAY FROM THE WEDGE, BUT ENCROACHES INTO VALUABLE PASS THROUGH SPACE.
MOUSETRAPS SOLUTION WAS TO MODIFY THE ROOFS PIVOT POINT. THIS SMALL CHANGE LETS THE ROOF LIFT AN EXTRA TWO INCHES OVER A STANDARD PIVOT POINT. THE CABOVER SECTION IS ALSO TALLER THAN MOST WEDGE CAMPERS. (13.5”) THE CUMULATION OF THESE DESIGN FEATURES RESULT IN 13” FROM THE BASE OF THE BED PLATFORM TO THE CEILING AT THE SHORTEST POINT OF THE WEDGE. THAT’S MORE THAN ENOUGH ROOM FOR A 4” OR EVEN A 6'“ MATTRESS TO BE USED WHILE KEEPING YOUR TOES AWAY FROM THE CEILING.
-
absolutely! the hard walls and ceiling of the camper are insulated with r6 foam insulation. the canvas walls have 1” of synthetic fiber insulation for an r value of r4. this is awesome in the cold, but equally valuable for keeping you cool on the hot days.
-
yes! the barn doors and side access hatches are operated with lockable “t” handle latches. there’s a few reasons for this style of latch.
you can operate it from the inside.
you can lock yourself in from inside.
extremely secure 3 point latch mechanism.
they will never freeze or need rubber covers to protect them.
-
the fan’s position is very strategic. it is offset to one side to allow for a wide accessory such as a roof box or ski racks to be mounted to the roof without impeding the fan’s ability to open and operate. it is also placed in a way that it will never be blocked by the folding back wall or deployed bed platform when the camper is not popped up. this keeps the fan functional weather you are popped up or closed.

the most common way to attach the camper to the truck is by using J or C clamps, the standard method for attaching canopies to truck beds. They secure the base of the camper to the rails of the truck bed and are removable. for some trucks, through bolting to the bed rails is also an option. this is recommended if you plan on a lot of offroading.
-
a stock pickup is more than capable of hauling a mousetrap camper. however, most people find themselves adding several hundred pounds of gear and supplies to their setup. suspension upgrades like airbags or upgraded leaf springs are always recommended. another modification that is not required but recommended is upgraded bed rail caps. most trucks have plastic bed rail caps, which can be problematic for several reasons. the first being they don’t offer much rigidity and will compress over time. this means you must frequently check the attachment clamps/bolts are properly torqued. dust and water can also work their way underneath the plastic caps if they haven’t been properly prepared and sealed before camper insulation. we always suggest looking into aftermarket aluminum bed rail caps. For newer trucks with composite beds, it is recommended to install bed stiffeners to reinforce the strength of the pickup bed.
